Africa's Talking

Send SMS from your own Africa's Talking account. Add your API key and sender, and your agents, inbox, and campaigns text customers through it.

How it works

You link your Africa's Talking account once, as an SMS sender. Aethex validates the credentials against Africa's Talking, stores them encrypted, and never returns them. After that, the messages an agent sends on a call, the replies you send from the inbox, and every SMS campaign go out from that sender. Africa's Talking joins Twilio as a carrier, so a tenant on an African market can text customers at local rates without a Twilio number.

Link your account

Link the account with your Africa's Talking username, API key, and registered sender id. The key is validated before it is stored, encrypted at rest, and never returned in a response.

Link an SMS sender
bash
# Link your Africa's Talking account as an SMS sender
curl -X POST https://api.aethexai.com/api/v1/messaging-accounts \
  -H "X-API-Key: $AETHEX_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "provider": "africastalking",
    "username": "your_at_username",
    "api_key": "atsk_...your-carrier-api-key",
    "sender": "ACME",
    "label": "Acme Ghana"
  }'

What you get

Your workspace SMS sender is Africa's Talking. Agents can text the person on a call, you can answer threads from the inbox, and campaigns send at a paced rate, all from your registered sender. STOP and START are honoured for the whole account.

Note
An alphanumeric sender name is outbound only: a name cannot be replied to. To hold two-way conversations, register a short code on this account with POST /phone-numbers/africastalking/register and give it the answering role, or use a number that takes inbound messages. See Text messaging.

API reference

For every request and response field, see the Text messages API reference. For how the channel behaves as a whole (senders, inbound, campaigns and limits) see Text messaging.
